What is Birth Doula Support & What Does It Look Like

Doula Support DOES

  • Provide emotional support

  • Provide non-medical physical comfort measures

  • Education for both mom and partner

  • A continuous presence during labor and birth

Doula Support Does NOT

  • Replace a professional medical provider’s presence and opinion

  • Advocate for you (a good doula helps you advocate for yourself, she does not advocate for you)

  • Perform medical tasks such as delivering your baby or performing vaginal exams

  • Guarantee a specific birth outcome

When a mother feels safe, supported, and informed, birth can become a deeply empowering experience. Doula support has been linked to greater confidence in labor, fewer interventions, and higher satisfaction with the birth experience.

This visit is usually between one and three hours long, and takes place within 30 min of Sheboygan Falls at either a coffee shop or Panera Bread! If you live within 30 min, then a home visit is also an option!

Preparation for Your Birth Together:

One of the most meaningful parts of our time together is spent during our birth planning visit! This visit is a relaxed, heart to heart time where we get to know one another. This visit is designed to help you feel informed, supported, prepared, and confident as you approach labor and birth. We will discuss hopes, questions, concerns, and preferences so that you can walk out of the meeting feeling cared for emotionally, physically, and practically!

Your story is unique! During this visit we will go over your hopes and fears, any previous birth experiences, how your partner can be involved, what my support looks like, and how I can best tailor it to your specific desires.

Together we will discuss your preferences regarding:

  • Labor environment

  • Natural comfort measures

  • Pain management options

  • Hospital or Birth Center procedures

  • Cesarean preferences

  • Immediate postpartum wishes for you and baby

We will also walk through practical preparation for labor such as:

  • Signs and stages of labor

  • When to call me

  • Comfort techniques and coping strategies

  • Labor positions and movement

Birth is beautiful and unpredictable. Part of preparation is understanding flexibility and feeling supported no matter how your story unfolds. Because I want you to be able to have peace with any part of your birth, even if not previously planned, we may talk through:

  • Long Labors

  • Inductions

  • Epidurals

  • Cesarean Birth

  • Changes in Plans

This visit is meant to be low pressure, like getting together with an old friend. It is full of intimate moments, silly moments, and everything in-between! Come as you are! ❤️

During Labor

It’s Baby Day! The little life you have carried within your womb for nine months is ready to make it’s way earthside. You are so close to baby snuggles and tiny toes! I will be by your side within two hours of receiving the phone call, requesting in person support. This is the time where all of your hard work and birth preparation pays off! I will work alongside the rest of your birth team to provide you with support that you can count on. Support that leaves you feeling seen, heard, and valued. Because you are not just one in a million, you matter, and so does your story and memory!

During Postpartum

Yay! You have your precious baby in your arms and are no longer preparing for birth, but instead, are recovering and reminiscing. We will meet for a sweet postpartum visit to go over your birth experience, rejoice in what went well, and talk through anything that you may wish had gone differently. It is a time where you can reflect, jubilate, and grieve if you feel the need. I bring a celebration gift for you, and we say our bittersweet goodbyes. Every mother that gives birth, regardless of circumstance or method, has shown great courage and strength. I am so proud of you!
